Chapter 1343

---

“You say that, yet you’re always around him like a leech!” Ella snapped, her eyes widening with scorn. “Don’t you think nobody can see through your cheap tactics to seduce him?”
Hannah didn’t know whether to laugh or cry at Ella’s delusion.
Shaking her head in amusement and perplexity, she shot back, “If you’ve got plenty of time in your hands to bicker, you should have spent it on self-reflecting so you’d know how to win Remington over without being such a bitch. I neither have the time nor the will to argue with you over a guy because I’m not that low, so stop coming for me.”
“Hannah! You can’t just talk to me in that manner because you’re cozying up with the Compton crew now!”
Elsa, flaunting her fancy background, felt high and mighty like a peacock showing off. “You reckon just because the Comptons nod your way, you’re one of them high and mighty Compton girls? With your mixed-up blood and shady roots, isn’t there a saying back in Cadilind ‘Even if a scrawny hen perches high, it isn’t becoming a phoenix’?”
But Hannah didn’t bat an eye at Elsa’s jabs.
It was like a game of make-believe, all the same chatter, making Hannah too tired to even argue back.
Without a word, Hannah turned to shut the door.
Elsa, thinking she had Hannah on the ropes, kept the door wedged open. “Cat got your tongue, Hannah? No comeback? Then steer clear of Remington!”

Hannah, now brimming with defiance, paused mid-door-swing and flashed a grin at Elsa. “And what if I don’t? What’s your move then? Why don’t you tell your precious Remington to steer clear of me instead?”

Hannah’s comeback hit Elsa where it hurt. “You!”
“I suggest you back off now!”
Hannah’s smile vanished, her gaze cold as ice on Elsa. “Or don’t blame me if things get real!”
But Elsa stood firm, holding the door tight, “Hannah! Let’s play fair! Loser stays away from Remington.”
Dealing with Elsa’s foolishness was a real test and it doused any anger that was building up.
With the Delgado and Juarez families in hot water, causing trouble with the Austin family’s daughter wouldn’t be smart.
Hannah couldn’t help but internally roll her eyes. “Alright, let’s lay it out straight. What’s the game plan here to keep things smooth?”
“Hey, isn’t there a horse race later? You and me, same track! Loser stays away from Remington, got it?”
“Sure thing.”
Hannah nodded lazily. “And what if you’re the one who lose?”
Elsa smirked cockily. “Horse racing, Miss, I have never tasted defeat!”
“Don’t count your chickens before they hatch. Hoisting such a big flag only to eat humble pie later is never fun,” Hannah commented.
Elsa choked on Hannah’s words, shooting her a glare. “If I lose, I’ll own up for today’s mess and I won’t pester you again!”
“Deal. I just hope Miss Austin sticks to her word once the race is done.”
